JZ300 Does York!

JZ300 Does York!

A little while ago a visit to York was arranged by some members of the My FinePix group.
My wife and I decided we would go and take a short holiday break there.
Shortly before going I was delighted to be chosen by Fujifilm to test the JZ300 and write a review. The review is limited due to the fact that only 4 photo's are permitted .
So here is my blog of York, hopefully showing a greater range of the camera's capabilities.

This is the My Finepix group we met up with at The National Rail Museum.

This is an overall view of the NRM. It was taken using Scene Recognition Auto.

Couldn't resist this as a silhouette shot.

This was one the views from our flat.

York is very popular and was crowded as usual. This view of the Shambles is typical.

Silver Street with it's "olde" buildings.

"York" Gate. The city has many gates round the old walls.

This is the original name of the "York" Gate.
Used the Text setting for this one.

One of the many strange inhabitants?

Around every corner you'll find something different.
This guy was making wooden name plates using an old treadle fretsaw.

The Purple Man!, collecting for his charity.

Street entertainment. These guy's gave a first class show for free.

This could be Holland, not York.

York is full of little alleyways leading to other little alleyways.

This beautiful Edwardian Railway Hotel has been ruined with the mobile phone mast jammed on top.

When in York you just have to walk the walls.
This was taken coming up to dusk.

Front face of the Minster.

Same shot but on maximum zoom!

The Minster at twilight.

All Saints Church.

Night shot across the river. Needed a tripod for this.

The kitchen in our flat.

A macro, just to prove I tested this feature out.

An Action shot. This was take 12 with my granddaughter.

This was the camera I tested a JZ300.

My thanks to the Fuji team for allowing me to test this camera and to all the My Finepix gang that made the journey to York.

It was great and here's to the next time.

Here's the link to the review in case you have yet to read it.

Another completely different view of York.  Loved the smiling Dragon gargoyle. I am very impressed with the cameras range, especially the night shots.

Hi Gerry

Well two treats for you.  Meeting us bunch of loonies AND getting the chance to try out the JZ300.

For it's size, you get some really good shots.  I wonder we will be in 10 years time, what with sensors getting more and more pixels crammed onto them.

Great to see a new take on York.  You must admit it,  we are a handsome bunch!!!!

Great to meet you Gerry,  hope to again sometime.  We will have a longer chat too.  By the way,  that flat seems to be very well appointed and a great view too.

Cheers for now and thank you.

PS:  As you said that shot was spoilt, I have "air-brushed" it for you and got rid of the mast.

Bravo Gerry.

A very capable little camera.  It appears to have handled some very different situations very well indeed.  Of course it needed a good chap to do the shooting.

It was great to meet you both in York.  Pity I couldn't stay and enjoy the dry and sunny day that followed our 'wash-out saturday'.

Hi Gerry. Wonderful interesting photoblog of your time in York. Very sharp focussed colour clarity images. Looks like a good camera not that I will swap my beloved Fuji HS10 or Fuji F70EXR. Love the night shots and a tripod works wonders for me too for sharper pictures and reflections. Thanks for compiling and sharing. Maybe I will get to meet you both on a Fuji meet sometime. All the best. Alison Smile

I liked the photos of York my home city; but 2 of the captions on the photos are incorrect.

The Railway Hotel is in fact the Cedar Court Hotel on Station Rise; this building was the North Eastern Railway Headquarters before its conversion into a hotel. The Railway Hotel; now The Royal York is next to York Railway Station.

Silver Street is a photo of Stonegate taken from St. Helens Square; Silver Street links Newgate Market to Church Street.

Sorry to be pedantic.

Well done Gerry.

A very comprehensive review of the camera. You certainly seen a bit more of York than I did, but then you and Pam spent a bit more time  there.

It was lovely meeting you both and I'm sure we'll meet again in the future.

Some nice shots there Gerry, especially with an unfamiliar camera.

The night shot is particularly good. Well done.

Glad you had a great time.
