Well it's got the Old and the New OK but I'm afraid I personally find it a bit bland and lacking that extra spark which would make it stand out among the run of the mill tourist snap
Perhaps a different style of composition including more of the neighbouring features may have added something to the "story" you're trying to tell ?
Cheers Stuart

This is a superb contrast of old and new Rosemary. I admire the trouble (I presume) that you went to to get just the right angle.

Good vantage poinjt Rosemary. Love the contrasting detail and textures in the architecture. Nice use of light and shade. Love how the greenery softens it.
Happy New Year.
Good luck.

Hi Rosemary,
Well seen and very apt. If it were mine, I would play with colour saturation to emphasise the golden weather vane. That's a "resolution" gone! (I vowed not to say what I would do.) BOL

The Gherkin does, indeed, dwarf the Tower so that it lacks any definition.
From sideways on, maybe you would have achieved more distance between the two building and therefore more of a contrast?
Definitely old and new though, so the theme police can go suck!

I love it, and definitely old and new, so bang on theme.

Nice idea, but I'd have preferred a slight offset between the two buildings - the old bit is sort of swallowed up by the gherkin? A little "levels" work, and possibly colour saturation, would help point up both sorts of contrast!

The idea is a good one Rosemary,to me there seems a slight haze over the picture, it might be my eyes, or the different blues and greys seem to merge into one without strong definition,it could possibly be a heat haze,as I said at the start good idea, and bang on theme

This is a fabulous shot Rosemary. There will not be to many places where you can get a building so old and another that is so new that close together.
I like the way you have managed to catch the Tower smack in the middle of the Gherkin, that could not have been easy. Just perfect for the theme this month.
Very well captured and the very best of luck with this one. Pam

great work in lining them up like that and bang on theme!
it looks a little drab to me though in the colours department - lots of grey / blue and not a great deal of contrats between the gherkin and the sky - perhaps a bit of 'fiddling' in photoshop or gimp with saturation and such would have increased the dynamics of it? Maybe using a layer to take the sky out and move it's colour away from that of the gherkin would have helped?
I also agree the cop is a bit too close - it does look like somethings been chopped off (sorry).
All CC aside it's a great idea, best of luck
Michael

I see we share a similar concept for the theme. Having read the comments above feel that this shot has provoked quite a good debate on how people visualise this image. To me that is the mark of a good and interesting photograph.
Personally I like the direct angle and am impressed with the details in both structures considering the distance between them. I like the foreshortening effect achieved from this viewpoint. The contrast in the picture is good for London skyline. I too feel that a touch more room at the top would be better but probably not achievable with the lens angle of view. Excellent shot.
All the best for the New Year
